If you wish to stay to experience riding in the moonlight, here is your chance. We are starting at 6:30 PM but you can join us any time - we will be somewhere along the trail. The moon comes up at sunset, 9 pm. We plan to be at the wildlife viewing area just west of Black Dog. The trail closes at 10.
Obviously seeing the Full Moon will require excellent weather so be sure check back here Saturday morning after 9:00 am to find out if we are riding. Those of you who sign up with an email will get an email if we have to cancel.
Our route wends along the Minnesota River past Xcel Black Dog power plant with an observation deck and wildlife viewing areas in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The path is a gentle and completely paved trail only shared with fisherman and walkers - and the occassional skateboarder!
This tour will start and end at the east end parking lot under Cedar Avenue. A map with location is included in the pictures. Generally, travel from Bald Man Brewing west on Silver Bell Road and then northwest on Nicols Road.
Note that this is a lightly maintained road so take it slow. Expect washboard, holes and the occassional turkey!
Additional parking is also available on the far west end off 35W at the Minnesota Riverfront Park, 600 Black Dog Road West, Burnsville. If you will be staying to watch the full moon rise, I suggest using the east lot if at all possible. You can find a map of the MN River Greenway and future development here.
